Drinks are the most Dutch way of getting together: a glass, something warm from the fryer and no programme. In Gouda you do that on the Markt, with the town hall as your backdrop and the bar of Gouds Glas as your home base. Here is what is on the menu, how Friday afternoon drinks work and how to arrange drinks for a group.
Friday afternoon drinks: every Friday, no booking needed
Every Friday is Friday afternoon drinks at Gouds Glas. You do not need to book anything: walk in, grab a spot on the terrace or at the bar and order. It is where Gouda closes the working week, from offices in the city centre to teams arriving by train from Rotterdam or Utrecht. Coming with a group of 10 or more? Send us an email in advance and we will keep space free.
What is on the drinks menu
- Bitterballen and other Dutch fried snacks from our own kitchen, in portions of 8, 16 or 24 pieces.
- Cheese board with Gouda cheeses, because after all we sit on the Markt where the cheese market is held.
- Nachos and other savoury bites to share.
- Cocktails from 10 euros, house wine from 5.50 euros and local beers from 4.50 euros.
- Alcohol-free: alcohol-free beers and virgin cocktails.
You will find the current menu with prices on our menu card page.
The bartender's beer tasting
Our favourite drinks for two: the bartender's beer tasting. Four beers, four bitterballen, 16 euros, at the bar and without booking. If you would rather taste wine, read our guide to the high wine.
Drinks on Friday? Just walk in. Another day or with a group? Book a table or email [email protected].
Book a table →Drinks with a group
A birthday, departmental drinks, a reunion or a farewell: for groups of 10 to 200 guests we put together bespoke drinks packages. You get your own bar, snacks from our kitchen and a spot that suits the group: the terrace, the brasserie, the restaurant, the wine bar or the mezzanine. The price depends on your wishes; you receive a clear proposal in advance. Email your date and numbers to [email protected] or use the contact form with the subject Events & group experiences.
From drinks to dinner
Many drinks flow into a dinner. From 17:00 we serve the dinner menu, and for groups of 10 or more there is shared dining or a set menu from 30 euros per person. That is how drinks become an evening, without anyone having to move on.
Practical information
We are open from Monday to Saturday: Monday until 22:00, Tuesday and Wednesday until 23:00, Thursday to Saturday until 00:00. We are closed on Sundays. Gouda station is a five-minute walk away, and you park on the inner ring road (see the parking guide). On Thursday mornings in season you can combine your drinks with a visit to the cheese market.
