Wine bar in Gouda: a good glass on the Markt

A wine bar is more than a place with wine on the menu. It is about the selection, about someone who can tell you what you are drinking, and about a room where you want to linger. Here you read where to drink a good glass in Gouda and what makes the city distinctive when it comes to wine.

You can drink wine anywhere. A wine bar is something else: there the wine is the starting point, not the side dish. You notice it in the selection, in the question you are asked before you choose a glass, and in the fact that you walk in at six and are still sitting there at ten.

Where to drink a good glass in Gouda

Gouda's nightlife is concentrated around the Markt and the streets that lead onto it. For drinks with a view of the town hall you sit on the square; if you want it quieter, you walk towards the Oosthaven and the water. The choice mainly depends on what you are after: a loud Friday night or a conversation you can follow.

With us, the wine bar is a zone of its own within the building, alongside the terrace, the brasserie and the restaurant. That means you can sit there even when the restaurant is busy, and that the bar can be closed off on request for a private party.

The wine list: by the glass or by the bottle

We serve red, white and rosé wines from European wine houses, by the glass and by the bottle. House wine starts from €5.50 per glass. For dinner there is an extensive wine list with finer bottles.

Rather not wine? There is a seasonal menu of homemade cocktails made with fresh ingredients (from €10.00) and we serve beers from local breweries in the region (from €4.50). Gouda has had more than two hundred breweries over its history, so that is no random choice.

Just dropping in is fine. We are open Monday to Saturday from 10:00 to 00:00, right on the Markt. For a group, booking is appreciated.

High wine: tasting with explanation

The high wine is the wine version of the high tea: sweet and savoury bites in courses, but with selected wines instead of tea. What makes ours different is that with every wine you get an explanation of its origin, the grape variety and the flavour profile. You do not just taste the difference, you also understand where it comes from.

That makes it suitable for groups of friends, birthdays, hen and stag parties and business drinks. Fully customisable. Also read the article on high tea in Gouda, in which we explain the difference between the two.

Cheese and wine: the Gouda combination

In the cheese city, one tasting is more obvious than all the others. Our Cheese & Wine Tasting is led by Joost Zekveld, one of Gouda's most experienced hospitality entrepreneurs: four carefully selected Gouda cheeses with four perfectly matched wines, in sixty minutes.

Joost takes you through the stories behind the products, the history of Gouda as a cheese city and the role of craftsmanship. Informative, cultural and interactive, and easy to combine with a visit to the city centre. The tasting is available for thirty people or more.

Is your party smaller? Then take a look at the other group experiences: from group drinks to a group dinner from the Mibrasa charcoal oven.

Hiring the wine bar

Because the wine bar is a closed-off zone, parties regularly hire it separately, for private drinks, a company outing or a birthday. It is also the room where we hold wedding ceremonies: intimate, beneath the Gouda windows.

For business parties the bar is an informal alternative to a meeting room; see business for that. For parties and drinks, everything is on the Drinks & Events page.
