What are the must-sees in Gouda?

St John’s Church (Sint-Janskerk) is the longest church in the Netherlands and houses 72 stained-glass windows, the Gouda Windows (Goudse Glazen). Then there is the 15th-century town hall in the middle of the Markt, the Waag (weigh house) and the canals and facades of the city centre. In summer the cheese market joins the list. When is the cheese market in Gouda?

During the cheese market season, from April to August inclusive, the Gouda cheese market is held every Thursday morning on the Markt, from 10:00 to 12:30. Gouds Glas is on that same Markt, so you can easily combine the cheese market with coffee or lunch with us.

How do I get to Gouda and where can I park?

Gouda station is a few minutes’ walk from the Markt, via the Kleiweg. If you come by car, there are several car parks and parking areas within walking distance of the centre. A separate parking guide will follow in this theme.

How far is Gouds Glas from St John’s Church?

Gouds Glas is at Markt 40, right next to the town hall. St John’s Church is about a five-minute walk away. Book your lunch before you visit the church and your table will be ready when you get back.

Is a day in Gouda fun with children?

Yes. The Markt, the cheese market and St John’s Church are all easy to do with children, and at Gouds Glas there are children’s dishes on the lunch and dinner menus. Children are always welcome with us.

Where does the name Gouds Glas come from?

Gouds Glas is named after the 72 stained-glass windows of St John’s Church, known worldwide as the Gouda Windows (Goudse Glazen). You can read the story behind the windows and our name in a separate guide. Read the story of the Gouda Windows →
