Frequently asked questions
Good to know
The questions we are asked most often about seasons & holidays, answered by the Gouds Glas team. Question not listed? Call 0182 717 708 or email [email protected].
What is Gouda by Candlelight?
Gouda by Candlelight (Gouda bij Kaarslicht) is the annual festival of light in December on the Markt: the street lights go out, the town hall and the facades are lit with candles and the Christmas tree on the Markt is switched on. Gouds Glas is right in the middle of that Markt. If you want to dine with us that evening, book well in advance.
When is the cheese market in Gouda?
From April to August inclusive, every Thursday morning from 10:00 to 12:30 on the Markt. Come early for a spot on the terrace.
Are you open on Sundays and public holidays?
We are closed on Sunday. Around public holidays the opening hours may differ. Check the booking system or get in touch with us. Contact and bookings →
What do you do in Gouda when the weather is bad?
St John’s Church (Sint-Janskerk) and the museums in the city centre are all within a few minutes’ walk of the Markt, and Gouds Glas is right in the middle of it. Start with coffee and Gouda pastries, visit the church and finish with lunch or dinner.
Can I come with a group during an event?
Yes, but book early: during the cheese market, Gouda by Candlelight and in December the busiest days fill up quickly. Groups of 10 or more are arranged via [email protected].
Does the menu change with the seasons?
Yes. Our menu changes with the seasons and we work with local suppliers. So in winter you will find different dishes than in summer. View the menu card →
